THE POOR OF THE WORLD ARE GETTING HUNGRIER AND WHY OCCUPY KANSAS CITY SHOULD MARCH ON THE BOARD OF TRADE BUILDING
There is enough food growing capacity in the world to keep even our huge population well fed. However, that is not happening. You can come up with lots of reasons, but perhaps far and away the biggest is GLOBAL CAPITALISM. Commodity speculators out to make big bucks are making those big bucks and could give a flying f*uck what it means in the real world of hungry people. Their speculating has driven up food prices to a level that billions simply cannot afford to eat. You know what happens to people who don't eat? They shrivel up and die. As long though as there is still living labor to feed the capitalist machine, and as long as their is money to be made in financial speculation, the multitude is just supposed to live (die) with it.
I live in Kansas City, Missouri. We don't have a wall street. However, we do have a pretty significant commodities exchange housed in the Board of Trade Building which is astonishingly close to where I sit typing these words. Inside that building we find some mighty greedy food speculators going about their dirty business. We also have our own local OCCUPY KANSAS CITY (OKC) a few miles further on. We are all sitting here in the middle of food country USA. Seems to me to be a match made in heaven. Think I'll make the suggestion (actually, I have made it before, but maybe with this bit of info, the ears will come unplugged). DO IT OKC....HEAD ON DOWN TO THE BOARD OF TRADE.
The following article which contains some reformist thinkingI won't endorse, but provides lots of info we need to know comes from DER SPIEGEL of all places. Der Spiegel itself deserves, at best, to be occupied...but I grab the information where I find it.
