THE KOCHS ROLE IN THE CONSPIRACY AGAINST AMERICAN DEMOCRACY - BY GUS DIZEREGA
Last week I did a post here entitled Charles Koch, Gus, Bill and Me. It was based on an interview with and some writings of Gus DiZerega who grew up with the Kochs in Wichita. I knew Gus way back in the 60s at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. I guess, at the time, Gus was some sort of libertarian with whom I know I didn't get along. Anyway, I decided to look further at what Gus has written on the Koch brothers and what I found is, what I consider to be, the very best analysis of them, of why they are dangerous, and what it is that makes them so which I have ever read. This is not some half baked piece. This is not merely some screed which points out that they are very rich, fund lots of awful things, and are very far to the right. Gus' analysis (and his reminisces of his personal experience with them) goes beyond this. He connects the dots, traces their history, their thought, and makes clear their strategy, while also explaining the connections to the radical right of the GOP. You may not, likely will not, necessarily agree with the basis of Gus's politics, philosophy or ideology, but you need to read what he has written nonetheless. You'll learn something. I did.
I also have an apology to make here. In the original piece of mine last week I made some nasty comments about the Gus I once knew. Let me just say this, since I made those comments I have had several correspondences with Gus. While I am sure we could find a whale of a lot of places to disagree (you will see some in the piece below), I have found him to be very cordial, very bright, very informative, and very easy going. I am glad that I have reconnected with him. Agree with his politics or not, he is one very interesting fellow.
Now, for Theoretical Monday at Scission, the following piece written last October comes from the blog of Gus DiZerega.
THE KOCHS ROLE IN THE CONSPIRACY AGAINST AMERICAN DEMOCRACY
Some months ago I posted an account of the evidence for a Koch funded conspiracy against American democracy, rooted in my having grown up in Wichita, their home, having known Charles Koch personally, and my youthful involvement with the radical rights. Recent events have led to new information, so I am republishing this piece, with some new information on our current situation added.
