THERE WAS NO MASSACRE OF THE YANOMAMI IN VENEZUELA
When I am wrong, I am wrong and I admit it and will tell you about it.
Well, I was wrong to join in on the crescendo of stories about the massacre of a remote indigenous tribe in Venezuela and I was wrong to accuse the Chavez regime of a whitewash of the whole thing.
The latest news from numerous independent sources is that NOTHING HAPPENED. I repeat there was NO MASSACRE.
What can I say? I have found the source of the information that there was a massacre, Survival International (which now admits it was in error), to be a usually reliable source of information. There was also all those groups who were demanding a further investigation and who indicated they thought there had been a mass killing as well.
Nope...didn't happen...nobody is dead...no sign of violence.
The truth is that I cannot say that I wouldn't make the same mistake with the same amount of information tomorrow. I hope not, but sometimes, things happen. I did wait a while before posting any news of the massacre because I am aware that many want to paint Hugo Chavez in a bad light due to his populist regimes nasty relationship with the Empire's chief boss. However, after weeks of waiting I was convinced.
I was wrong.
