They simply do not care. Big Capital, the government, the regulators, none of them really give a damn. If they did what happened near Milwaukee would not have taken place. Following the collapse of a bluff, coal ash and other crap from the Oak Creek Power Plant went rolling into Lake Micigan. Those who are supposed to protect the Earth and those who live on it from this exactly this sort of thing have been TALKING about it for years.
Coal ash landfills can be found all over the place. One of the most notable disasters related to these things happened if you recal in 2008 when a TVA ash spill flooded hundreds of acres of land and spilled into rivers and streams.
Mary Anne Hitt, from the very moderate Sierre Club, said,
"The EPA has been trying to enact national protections to stop this kind of disastrous spill from happening again, ever since the TVA disaster in 2008, and our Congress has been blocking them every step of the way. As a result, communities across the nation remain at risk and unprotected."
Oh well, I am sure, they will take action any day now.
