LAWRENCE, KANSAS CONVERGENCE

April Convergence of Anti-war Activists and Groups from Kansas and Missouri
Saturday April 8th 2006 9:30 am -6 pm
Ecumenical Christian Ministries Building 1204 Oread Avenue, Lawrence Kansas

This event is being sponsored by the April Convergence Committee, a group of Lawrence Kansas based anti-war activists. It has been 3 years since the start of the war on Iraq, and all of our efforts have reaped little reward. We are holding this convergence in hope of fostering a continuing dialogue about the next steps we must take in the anti-war movement.

The logistics of the convergence are listed below. If you are planning on spending the night in Lawrence, we are asking that you find your own housing. If you have a physical or financial need for housing please let us know so that we can accommodate you.

There will also be a free meal and childcare for those who need it. If would be helpful to know ahead of time how many children we are likely to have.

Please respond to this e-mail by March 15th if possible. There is no required pre-registration but it would help us if we know how many people are planning to attend. We can be reached at: april806@hotmail.com

9:30 am- "Meet and Greet" with group info sessions.

Please bring materials and set up a table at the ECM building. Some tables will be
provided, but if you have one, it would be helpful to bring it along.

10:00 am
We would like to open the Convergence with each group giving a brief description of who they are, where they are from, what they are doing, what they need help with and/or what they can do to help.

11 am First Workshop Spot

12:30 Lunch
There will be a by donation vegan/vegetarian meal provided at the summit
site.

3:30 pm - 6 pm Ending Session
We will be facilitating a two part, ending meeting. Where the first half
will be devoted to talking about the many local activities from groups in
the region, and the second half will be devoted to a strategy session
about the next steps for the regional anti-war movement.

Workshops
The afternoon will be given over to several workshops. Two workshops are
being planned. The Role of Civil Disobedience in the Anti-war Movement and
Beyond Blood for Oil - the logic of anti-imperialism: If you are interested in leading a workshop please let us know by March 15th. If you would like to attend a workshop but cannot yourself convene it, please let us know as soon as possible so we can try to find someone who can do that. The building can support several workshops if no one of them is too loud.
