This week I am here to tell you that the great state of Arizona doesn't want its kids reading books by American Indians or about the true history of this country in relations to American Indians.
All of this can be attributed to HB 2281 which took affect on January 1. The new law states that no class can be taught that "promotes the overthrow of the United States government; promote resentment toward a race or class of people; are designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group; advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals."
The school district in Tucson takes this stuff seriously.
So sure, toss out the Mexican American studies programs and burn the damn American Indian books.
Ain't that America....
The following is from Indian Country Today.
