BETTER WAYS TO FREE A WOLF THAN TO LEAVE IT TO DIE IN THE COLD

At first I figured the release of three wolves from a Wildlife research center in Minnesota was a good thing. However, after reading the attached article I realized maybe not so much. The lone wolf that remains at large is a warm weather animal which has little chance of survival in the cold of Minnesota. I've no use for animal testing and the like, but I've no use for unthinking animal abuse and killing either. Use your head out there folks.

This week a Mexican Grey Wolf was released from the Wildlife Science Center in Forest Lake, Minnesota by Animal Liberation Front.  (Here is the news story).

While I whole-heartedly oppose animal testing, I find this act problematic.

Mexican Grey Wolves are desert animals – they are native to the deserts of the southwestern United States.  Being released in the winter of northern Minnesota is essentially a death sentence for this animal (especially one that has never lived in the wild before) it will be incapable of adapting to the cold climate.  Furthermore, even if it does survive, there is a grave risk that this endangered species will be mistaken for a coyote and shot.

I just really think it was irresponsible to simply released into the Minnesota wild.  If the people who did this really wanted to help the wolf, they should have made appropriate preparations to relocate it to a more natural habitat.
